Boris is the new Mayor of London |

 Boris Johnson Boris Johnson has been elected Mayor of London. He received 1,168,738 first and second preference votes compared with Ken Livingstone's 1,028,966.In his victory speech, he said the election had been good for politics and good for London. He paid tribute to his main opponents, Brian Paddick and Mr. Livingstone. Boris also won handsomely in the local Merton & Wandsworth Assembly district, by 77,236 votes to 60,646 votes. Boris won 45% of the vote. Richard Tracey was elected Assembly Member for Merton & Wandsworth in succession to Elizabeth Howlett, winning 44% of the vote.  Mark Clarke talking to Boris Johnson during one of his recent visits to Wandsworth Boris promised to work "flat out" to cut crime, improve transport, protect green spaces and, most of all, to repay the confidence of everyone who voted for him.He finished by saying, "Let's get cracking tomorrow; and let's have a drink tonight." Commenting, Mark Clarke said, “This was a great result for London and I am confident that Boris will make a great Mayor for our city. I would like to thank everyone in Wandsworth who voted for him and am sure he will work hard to earn your trust.”
