Mark Clarke and Cllr Maurice Heaster visiting all of the Post Offices which are to close in the Tooting Constituency Despite huge public support the campaign to save Wandsworth Post Office network from savage cuts has failed. Not one post office has been saved. This is despite the support of local businesses, local government agencies, residents associations and thousands of local residents. All were ignored. Our area will see the post offices in Trinity Road, Mitcham Road, Garratt Lane and Balham High Road all closed. Labour councillors voted for the same “save our post office” motion that their MP voted against Wandsworth Councillors voted on the exact same motion that was voted on Parliament which could have saved our Post offices. They voted unanimously in favour of it. That means our Labour councillors voted for the motion in Wandsworth – unlike our Labour MP who voted for the closure of the post offices in the House of Commons. Our Labour MP said that the motion was party political – but if that was the case, then why did local Labour councillors support it? They supported it because they knew it was right.
